Talk on HTML5, CSS and Web Standards
Opera Web Evangelists Bruce Lawson and Patrick Lauke gave a free, 3-hour lecture to a packed audience of new media students and other web designers from Leeds on 5 May 2011. These leading figures in the fields of web design, development, standards and accessibility showcased some of the amazing things that can now be done with HTML5 and CSS3, inspiring all who were present.

Enterprise Scholarship

In autumn 2010, James Hennessey was awarded a University of Leeds Undergraduate Enterprise Scholarship to the value of £4000 in 2010 to convert his final year project, a social media monitoring and brand sentiment analysis application called Social Insight, into a business.

Design Competition Winner

In December 2010, Luis Ouriach won a national competition to design a poster for Mental Wealth UK to promote mental health and well being. His award was featured in the Yorkshire Evening Post.

30 Seconds to change your mind

In 2009, Ana Santos was the overall winner of Brake's competition to create a national road safety campaign. Her video project raises awareness of the dangers of using mobile phones whilst driving. Judges were particularly impressed by both production and implementation. This included a screening of her advert at the Hyde Park Picture House in Leeds.

Her prize was presented at the Houses of Parliament in early 2010.

Brahm Sh Awards 2009

Matthew Tweddle took third prize in the Digital Category for work including his contribution to June's Sun an Animated Music Video.


Gary Frisch Bursary Award, Barry Carlyon

National Web/Radio Awards

Barry Carlyon, was awarded the Gary Frisch Bursary 2008, during his second year, for his web development work at Leeds Student Radio station, LSR FM. Barry won £4,000 to help him to develop his system further and enable its release as open source software to community radio stations across the world.

Brahm Sh Awards 2007

Will Jones won 'Best Digital Designer' in the Brahm Sh Awards in 2007. Beating some tough competition Will's varied portfolio impressed the judges and won him a paid work placement with one of the biggest and best marketing companies in Leeds.

Danny Blackman, Tom Cavill, Tom Downes

International D&AD Winners

Danny Blackman, Tom Cavill and Tom Downes together won a D&AD Yellow Pencil in the D&AD International Student Awards, 2006. They won 'Best in Category' for the 'Integrated Media Campaign' theme 2006. They designed and produced an integrated campaign consisting of animated screen idents, posters, brochure and a website.
